dunno about this show, but jerry did play pedal steel in early '72 a bit
this is just a reply to the little debate about Jerry on pedal steel. While most people know the 69-70 and '87 stuff, there are in fact a few examples

from early '72 (pre Europe) with this instrument. The most commonly known example is LLR; I can't remember if it's from the Academy shows or what, but there's no question about it. Hm yeah I think it's the Academy '72 Dicks Pick, vol. 30 or whatever. this is a dope little show, as mentioned many times.

a hard to handle(!!) the date eludes me at the moment but its on tape in the archive. He also played pedal steel on the 1st few looks like Rain in early '72 at the Academy of Music in NYC then in Europe once or twice. He's only bending notes here.

The Sugar Magnolia encore here sounds like Garcia is playing pedal steel.
He is NOT! Just bending notes on the G & B strings. He only played pedal steel on the Dylan/Dead tour on some Dylan tunes in 1987. He did play pedal

The sound on this is just incredible. When it gives you goosepimples it is the real deal. I first got the Cornell 77 as a 17 year old in England in 91

by fluke from a girl I knew as my first show, sometimes fate deals you the sweetest hand, and have not left it since. Jerry just does it and Phil steals so many shows that it is criminal. What to add this site is the best thing that has happened in a long time.

pedal steel?
Good show. The Sugar Magnolia encore here sounds like Garcia is playing pedal steel. A lot of fumbling with the slide and open strings at the beginning,

then settling in to decent leads by the middle of the song. Can anyone who was at this show confirm or deny that?

never started off so ON. China Cat into I know you rider is so filled with positive energy - it is fascinating. This energy does not cease - the entire first disc is finely crisp...but the SECOND disc...is a religious experience. This is the best Row Jimmy i have or will ever hear, smooth and rich like the best cup of coffee you have ever tasted. Bird Song is full of nonstop jam...and THEN Playin' in the Band starts. Once you get over the hollaring of the vocals in the chorus - Jerry lights this unbelievable wah-covered, acid-tripping fire. The jam in the middle of this song is unparalleled, with so many ups and downs. I felt the Dark Star was a little unimpressive...but into truckin, then Morning Dew, then Sugar Magnolia???? Why have you not downloaded this show???
